Hip Hop has suffered another loss with the passing of Mr. Magic today. The Super Rockin Mix Master whose career is a testament to the development of Rap and popular music has left the DJ booth of life. His works carry on with us in the RAP ATTACK series of LPs and of course our off the beat box recorded cassettes, dust them off and give them another play in memorial. I recieved this email from DJ Premier a good friend of his so I thought I would share his words with you-

DUE TO HIM BEING THE FIRST RAP MIXSHOW TO EVER BE ON COMMERCIAL RADIO ON NEW YORK’S WBLS—(107.5) WITH MARLEY MARL AND FLY TY IN 1982-1984…....THEN WENT ON TO WHBI IN OCTOBER OF 1984 AND THEN BACK TO WBLS in 1985 and WDAS in Philly SIMULTANEOUSLY HE PAVED THE WAY FOR ALL RADIO STATIONS THAT EVER DID MIXSHOWS AND ALSO SPARKED THE CAREER OF BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONS DUE TO THE DISS HE SHOWED WHEN THEY CAME TO SHOP THEIR DEMO TO HIM AND WAS TURNED AWAY WHICH THEN SPARKED “SOUTH BRONX” AND “THE BRIDGE IS OVER”.......HE WAS KNOWN FOR HIS DIRECT AND SARCASTIC ATTITUDE ON THE AIR AND EVERY ARTIST WANTED HIS APPROVAL WHEN IT CAME TO BREAKING NEW RECORDS….....HE EVEN HAD SONGS DEDICATED TO HIM BY THE LEGENDARY WHODINI—(“MR. R.I.P ~ Adam Michael Goldstein ~ DJ AM~
AM created a legacy in the world of music and was a true master at the art of party rockin'. Knowing AM since the 90's I had the pleasure of seeing him rise to stardom and become amazingly successful doing what he loved while still remaining humble and down to earth. A truly influential and talented brother. Rest In Paradise to the brother Adam Michael Goldstein. The old school homie AMG aka DJ AM. We'll miss you dawwwg! I'm sure I'll see you rockin' the hottest spots on the other side.

Hall of Fame 09'
A historic place to paint...I was invited to the Hall of Fame to help execute a Dondi tribute. As one of my biggest influences, I was honored to be a part of it. Martha Cooper shot these photos. Both Martha and Henry Chalfant were there promoting their new 25th year Anniversary edition of Subway Art.. got a signed copy.. it was a good day. :)

A day to remember...
This day was awesome. I was living in Frisco and my homie Clae came up to visit from L.A. After doing some pieces along the tracks in Dream's old yard up on 23rd street in Oakland a bunch of freights rolled in the yard. To top the day off, Clae, Gigs and I finished the rest of our paint on the trains. I was happy I brought an extra silver. :)

FIRST SHOW OF 09'
My first group show of the year...It was a good turn out at the grand opening of Norman Maxwell Media's new gallery space on Fairfax. I was spinning the whole night at this event and ended up selling a piece.. Good times...
